Unlike a traditional tattoo, the coloring from these applications don’t last as long because we use different tools, a smaller amount and different type of pigment, and implant ink into a different layer of skin. Skin type and care play a huge role in retention as well. Microblading typically lasts 1-2 years. Ombre typically lasts 1-5 years depending on skin type and lifestyle. Annual or Semi-annual Touchups are recommended for the best and longest-lasting results. Also, dry skin retains pigments much longer. Oily skin tends to fade faster, and needs more maintenance and touch ups. This is a major factor in longevity.
A preexisting brow tattoo, the quality of pigments, proper pigment implantation, different health issues and medications, UVA/UB/IR rays, Retin A/retinol/AHA'S/BHA'S/salicylic acids/chemical peels, not strictly following the aftercare instructions, heavy bleeders, and different skin types.
Pain levels vary for each client, but generally the pain level is minimal to none. A topical anesthetic is applied before and during the procedure to ensure the client is comfortable. These anesthetics are lidocaine based.
Pigment is applied using a hand tool or tattoo machine. The microblading hand tool has a row of tiny needles used to create thin hair strokes in the skin. For ombré/powder brow, a tattoo machine is used to create a powdery, filled-in makeup look. Pigment is implanted in the epidermis of the skin allowing for a natural, filled-in or powdery look. A touchup is recommended 5-8 weeks (depending on age) after the initial appointment.
A touchup appointment is a "perfecting session". This is done 4- 8 weeks after the initial appointment. During this appointment we address any areas that did not heal as well as we would have liked. We can fill in hairs, solidify existing hair strokes, darken the color, and make any shape adjustments. Because we cannot lighten pigment, it is VERY important to go conservative during the initial appointment. We can always add, but cannot take away. Touchups are also recommended yearly or bi yearly to keep brows looking fresh and pigmented. First touchups are included in each service due to their importance.
*Younger clients can sometimes be touched up at the 4-week mark while older clients should wait at least 6 weeks for a touchup appointment.
The initial procedure takes anywhere between 2-3 hours depending on the service and client skin type. Combination brows tend to take longer due to extra steps during the procedure. Touchups take 1-2 hours depending on how much work needs to be done.
